Today was an orientation day.
The boys experienced some of the busyness and the smells last night as we drove from the airport to the hotel; today we want to get out and about.
It is a public holiday today so 95% of businesses and shops are closed, even our breakfast was closed this morning, which in a sadistic way was good. Were possible we would like the boys to experience some things not going to plan and have to work through a solution. So our solution was, we went for a walk and found a ‘jollibee’ fast food place. After waiting 40 minutes for our 26 egg pancake burgers (like a McDonald egg McMuffin except replace the muffin with pancake) we soon discovered that the burgers were not worth the wait. However Chris Downey did discover a new love, a ‘taco hotdog’.
With travel the journey is often more memorable than the destination. So while jollibee was the destination, it was the 10 minute walk there and back that will be remembered long after the memory of a bad burger is forgotten.
On return to the hotel we plays some basketball with a few of the workers here at the uni, we did not play well but we had fun and more importantly the sweated some jollibee out of our system. After our game a lengthy swim in the pool was in order, followed by some relaxing time in front of the tv during the heat of the middle of the day.
This afternoon we are going to go for a walk to the cathedral, for Good Friday Mass and hopefully we can find something a little more successful for dinner? We are going to try and have an early night tonight, for tomorrow no more Mr Nice guy, we are on the tools for our first full day of work.

The joys of travel and eating in south east asia. Brings back some memories, hope you had better luck at dinner time. The kids, mainly J1 enjoyed looking at the pictures that you posted today, was disapointed you werent in the basketball one (theres no daddy there). Keep them coming, its a good thing for before bed time. Didnt do much today being public holiday and cool with showers. Missing you.
Hi everyone,
So wonderful to be able to follow your "journey". Love to read the news - can only imagine what wonderful experiences (both good and bad) that will come your way.
To the boys: soak it up. You are the envy of lots of your mates so bring back the memories.
Stay safe and well.
To Pete: nice pic of you sucking in your tummy!
